I know what your deal is
I know you’re in the business
Of building burning bridges
Lining the pillars with the witches
That didn’t pass your test
Stacking up the stones
That had no chance to float
The weight of the sins
Pulled them down
The weight of your sins
Made them drown
Lighting the fire with the matches
That you carved
Out of your father’s heart
But he swears he played no part
Fanning the flame with the breaths
That you pressed
From your mother’s chest
But she swears she never said that
Oh no, they took no part
They meant no harm
It’s not their fault
It’s getting warm
You’re getting warm
Was that the goal?

That’s really quite genius!
And how easy, how seamless
Using deflection as cement
Nothing too concrete
Porous enough to withstand heat
Earthquake safe
Cause it always sways
To its own beat
And reinforced with the cold steel

And a mind forbidden to feel
All in all, here’s the deal:
Burning bridges
Stand the test of time
On burning bridges

It’s really quite sandy here
Leaking like an hourglass
Almost like the time that’ll pass

Like very slow quicksand

The river you were baptised in
